Beloved ‘Sex and the City’ actor Willie Garson dies at 57




Willie Garson, best known for his portrayal of Stanford Blatch in the original Sex & City series, has died at the age of 57.


In 1998, Garson won the hearts of audiences for the popular HBO series that aired six and six times, portraying the character of Stanford, Carrie Broadshow's best friend. Garson also appeared in the recently produced TV series SARS and City and Sex and the City 2 as a revivalist in the TV series And Just Like.


The cause of Garson's death has not been officially announced, but SAARC & Citi's executive producer Michael Patrick King said in a statement on Tuesday that Garson was ill.


“The Sex and the City family has lost one of its own. Our amazing Willie Garson,” King said. “His spirit and his dedication to his craft was present every day filming And Just Like That. He was there – giving us his all – even while he was sick. His multitude of gifts as an actor and person will be missed by everyone. In this sad, dark moment we are comforted by our memory of his joy and light.”


A statement from HBO said: “Willie Garson was in life, as on screen, a devoted friend and a bright light for everyone in his universe. He created one of the most beloved characters from the HBO pantheon and was a member of our family for nearly 25 years. We are deeply saddened to learn of his passing and extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.”


Born William Garson Paszamant in New Jersey in 1964, Garson had a prolific screen career which began in the late 80s.





Garson's television career spanned the 90s and 2000s, including Twin Peaks, Friends, X-Files, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ally McBeal, Boy Meets World, and more. He is best known for his portrayal of Moses in White Collar, an American police force.

His film honors, including John Malkovich, Fever Pitch and Groundhog Day, have something to do with Maria.

Garson is an adoption consultant. His adopted son Nathan wrote on Instagram on Tuesday: “Dad, I love you so much. Relax in peace, I am happy to share all your adventures with you and get so much more. I'm proud of you. I will always love you, but I think it's time for you to go on your own adventure. You will always be with me. I love you more than you know and I am glad you are at peace now. You were always the hardest and funniest and smartest person I have ever known. I'm glad you shared [your] love with me. I will never forget or lose it. "




Following the news of Garson's death, tributes began pouring in on social media.

Jason Alexander of Seanfield called him "a loving, funny, kind man and a good actor."

“This breaks my heart,” Julie Bowen wrote on Instagram. In a separate post, the modern family actor said: “He came to my wedding on purpose. ‘Who’s Emmy getting married this weekend?’ I love this guy. "
